Kenyatta Names Mwathethe as Gen. Karangis Successor

In a statement, the President said that Gen. Karangi will commence the handover process starting next week pending retirement as the Chief of Defence Forces after serving for more than four decades in the defence force.

“I take this opportunity to thank General Karangi for his dedicated service to Kenya that was marked by diligence, great commitment, humility and patriotism,” said the President.

“General Karangi leaves our Defence Forces in a much better place both professionally and operationally.”

Mr. Mwathethe joins the National Defence Council as the Chief of Defence Forces – Designate. 

The Head of State further appointed Lieutenant General Joseph K. Kasaon as the Vice Chief of Defence Forces – Designate.

Hev also promoted Major General Leonard M. Ngondi to Lieutenant General and appointed him Kenya Army Commander – Designate.
