Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate now at 10pc, 495 new cases reported

The COVID-19 positivity rate—the percentage of positive cases to tests—was 10.0 percent on Thursday, the Health Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The rate of positivity was from 495 new infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 158,821.

According to officials, health care providers have administered 1,664,435 COVID-19 tests since the outbreak began.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 92, Mombasa 50, Kericho 42, Embu 36, Uasin Gishu 22, Kisi 20, Bungoma 18, Kisumu and Nakuru 17 cases each, Nyeri 16, Busia 15, Kilifi 13, Garissa 12, Siaya 11, Kitul, Meru and Murang’a 10 cases each, Kirinyaga and Trans Nzoia 9 cases each, Nandi and Kiambu 7 cases each, Makueni and Nyandarua 6 cases each, Bomet 5, Kajiado, Nyamira and Taita Taveta 4 cases each, Laikipia, Turkana, Machakos and Migori 3 cases each, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu and Homa Bay 2 cases each, Kakamega, Kwale, Narok, Vihiga and West Pokot 1 case each.

The overall number of recoveries has risen to 108,124, according to the docket, with 242 patients recovering in the last 24 hours.

191 of the new recoveries were from the Home Based Care and Isolation while 51 were from various health centres; health officials classify all cases older than two weeks as recovered

At the same time, 19 deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours, 13 of which occurred on various dates during the last month and 6 of which were late deaths discovered after facility record audits.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, 2,707 people have died in the country as a result of contracting COVID-19.
