Kenyas Covid-19 positivity rate at 9.6pc as 20 patients succumb

Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate now stands at 9.6% after 241 people tested positive from a sample size of 2,515 tested in the last 24 hours.

The cumulative cases are now 151,894 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,605,847.

20 deaths have also been reported with one having occurred in the last 24 hours, 11 on diverse dates within the last one month, while 8 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits.

This now pushes cumulative fatalities to 2,501.

New deaths by age: 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (1), 30-39 years (1), 40-49 years (2), 50-59 years (3), 60 years and above

Cumulative deaths by age are as follows: 0-9 years (48), 10-19 years (18), 20-29 (97), 30-39 years (222), 40-49 years (335), 50-59 years (558), 60 years and above (1,203).

1,651 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,161 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

250 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 57 of whom are on ventilatory support and 150 on supplemental oxygen. 43 patients are on observation.

Another 201 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 190 of them in general wards while 11 are in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Vaccination

So far, a total of 702,170 persons have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease countrywide.

Of this 397,539 are aged 58 years and above; 141,146 are health workers; 106,147 are teachers while 57,338 are security officers.

In terms of gender, men continue to exhibit a lot of enthusiasm in this exercise compared to women. 393,261 males have so far been vaccinated compared to 308,526 females.

At the county level, Nairobi has the highest number of persons vaccinated to date with 223,992 followed by Nakuru with 42,145, Uasin Gishu is third with 35,543, Kiambu is fourth at 35,244 and

Nyeri is fifth with 25,345. The counties with less than 1000 persons vaccinated since the start of the exercise is Lamu with 469, followed by Marsabit 427 and Tana River with 675.

Vaccination numbers from the other counties is as follows: Kakamega 18,001, Kajiado 17,791, Murang’a 17,534, Kisumu 17,424, Meru 17,392, Mombasa 16,996, Nyandarua 14,260, Trans Nzoia 13,954, Laikipia 13,889, Bungoma 13,442, Machakos 12,777, Nandi 12,139, Embu 11,689, Kirinyaga 10,946, Kericho 10,886, Kitui 10,192, Homa Bay 9,679, Kisii 8,660, Vihiga 8,614, Busia 7,418, Nyamira 6,427, Baringo 6,363, Bomet 6,211, Siaya 5,996, Elgeyo Marakwet 5,399 Nigori 5,259 Tharaka Nithi 5,185 Narok 4,873, Makueni 4,873, Kilifi 4,332, Samburu 2,923, West Pokot 2,857, Taita Taveta 2,650,Turkana 2,627, Kwale 2,409, Wajir 1,928, Garissa 1,766, Mandera 1,565 and Isiolo 1,392.

Distribution of new cases

Out of the 241 new COVID-19 cases reported on Monday, 228 are Kenyans while 13 are foreigners: 135 are males and 106 are females. The youngest is a-seven-year-old child while the oldest is 90 years.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (4), 10-19 years (11), 20-29 years (33), 30-39 years (58), 40-49 years (56), 50-59 years (39), 60 and above (40).

In terms of county distribution, Nairobi recorded 153 positive cases, Meru 18, Uasin Gishu 14, Machakos 10, Kiambu and Nakuru 9 cases each, Mombasa 8, Nandi 6, Kitui 3, Bungoma, Nyandarua and Kajiado 2 cases each, Kilifi, Muranga, Nyeri, West Pokot and Kakamega 1 case each.

In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 153 cases in Nairobi are from Westlands (21), Lang’ata (16), Dagoretti North (14), Embakasi East (11), Roysambu (10), Starehe (9), Dagoretti South, Kamukunji and Kasarani (8) cases each, Embakasi Central, Embakasi South and Kibra (7) cases each, Makadara and Ruaraka (6) cases each, Embakasi North, Embakasi West and Mathare (5) cases each.

In Meru, all the 18 cases are from Imenti Central. In Uasin Gishu the 14 cases are from Ainabkoi (5), Kapseret (4), Kesses (2), Moiben, Soy and Turbo (1) case each.

In Machakos, the 10 cases are from Athi River (5), Machakos (3), Kangundo and Masinga (1) case each. In Kiambu the 9 cases are from Thika (4), Kiambaa (2), Kabete, Kiambu Town and Kikuyu (1) case each.

In Nakuru, the 9 cases are from Naivasha (4), Nakuru East (3) Rongai and Subukia (1) case each. In Mombasa the 8 cases are from Likoni (3), Changamwe (2), Kisauni, Mvita and Nyali (1) case each. In Nandi the 6 cases are from Chesumei (4) and Emgwen (2). In Kitui the 3 cases are from Kitui South (2) and Kitui East (1).

In Bungoma the 2 cases are from Kanduyi and Kimilili (1) case each. In Kajiado the 2 cases are from Kajiado North. The 2 cases in Nyandarua are from Ol Kalou.

The case in Kilifi is from Malindi, the case in Muranga is from Kiharu, the case in Nyeri is from Mathira East, the case in West Pokot is from West Pokot and the case in Kakamega is from Likuyani.

636 patients have since recovered from the disease: 487 from Home Based and Isolation Care while 149 are from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries now stand at 102,278.

A total of 74,292 are from Home Based Care and Isolation while 27,986 are from various health facilities.
