Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate at 8.1pc, 523 new cases recorded

The Ministry of Health announced 523 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, tested from a sample of 6,469 people.

According to a press statement sent to the media, the new infections have a positivity rate of 8.1 percent.

The new cases push the total of confirmed positive cases so far to 185,060 and the total number of samples tested to 1,970,001.

“From the cases, 503 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners.” The statement from the Health Ministry reads “310 are males and 213 females”

The youngest patient is a two-week-old infant, while the oldest is 99 years.

Nairobi leads with the highest number of new infections with 161, Mombasa with 39 and Siaya with 36.

The distribution of positive cases in the rest of the counties is a follows: Kisumu 32, Uasin Gishu 30, Kisii 25, Kiambu 21, Kilifi 19, Vihiga 19, Nakuru 14, Kakamega 13, Nyeri 13, Homa Bay 13, Busia 12, Kajiado 11, Laikipia 10, Nandi 7, Bomet 6, Narok 5,Baringo 4, Kwale 4, Kericho 4, Tana River 4, Garissa 3, Murang’a 3, Bungoma 2, Kirinyaga 1, Kitui 1, Lamu 2, Machakos 2, Mandera 2, Meru 1, Migori 1, Nyamira 1, Nyandarua 1 and Samburu 1.

The positive cases are distributed by age as follows; 0-9 years (23), 10-19 years (36), 20-29 years (100), 30-39 (134) 40-49 (92) 50-59 (55) 60 years and above (83).

Meanwhile, 86 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours; 50 from various health facilities countrywide while 36 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care program.

“Total recoveries now stand at 126,680 out of which 91,550 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 35,130 are from various health facilities.” the statement from the Health Ministry reads.

At the same time, Kenya’s total COVID-19 death toll has hit 3,651 after 11 new deaths were reported on Friday.

All the deaths were late deaths reported after conducting facility audit records on diverse dates in the months of April and June 2021.
