Kenyas coronavirus positivity rate at 14.9% after 1,091 new infections

Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate is now at 14.9%, with the Ministry of Health in a statement on Friday announcing 1,091 new infections, tested from 7, 300 samples.

The new infections push the total of confirmed cases and total samples tested so far to 144,154 and 1,549,388 respectively.

1,058 of the new cases are Kenyans while 33 are foreigners; 610 are male while 481 are female.

The youngest patient is a two-month-old infant while the oldest is 100-years-old.

A total of 1,605 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,233 patients are on Home Based Care and Isolation.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows: 0-9 years (35), 10-19 years (53), 20-29 years (164), 30-39 years (262), 40-49 years (219), 50-59 years (188), 60 and above (170).

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 353, Kiambu 67, Uasin Gishu 65, Mombasa 57, Kericho 51, Murang’a 50, Machakos 49, Nakuru 48, Kakamega 34, Kilifi 32, Makueni 29, Kajiado 29, Kitui 29, Nyandarua 26, Kisumu 25, Busia 22, Bungoma 17, Trans Nzoia 13, Garissa 13, Turkana 10, Laikipia 10 Vihiga 10, Bomet 10, Meru 9, Baringo 7, Nyeri 7, Samburu 5, Migori 3, Kwale 2, Lamu 2, Siaya 2. West Pokot 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Embu 1, Kirinyaga 1 and Narok 1.

In terms of Sub County distribution, In Nairobi the 353 cases are from Westlands (42), Lang’ata (29), Kasarani (27), Ruaraka (24), Kamukunji and Roysambu (23) cases each, Embakasi West (22), Starehe (20), Embakasi East and Kibra (19) cases each, Embakasi North (17). Embakasi Central and Makadara (16) cases each, Dagoretti North (15), Dagoretti South and Mathare (14) cases each, Embakasi South (13)

At the same time, the Ministry of Health has announced 533 new recoveries; 292 from the Home Based Care and Isolation and 236 from various hospitals across the country.

Meanwhile, 17 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours with all of them having occurred in the last one month.

Kenya’s cumulative fatalities are now at 2,309.

Patients above 50 years appear to have borne the brunt of the disease which has killed 1,622 patients aged 50 and above.

Cumulative deaths by age are as follows: 0-9 years (45), 10-19 years (17), 20-29 (94), 30-39 years (208), 40-49 years (323), 50-59 years (522), 60 years and above (1,100).
