Kenyas COVID-19 infections rise to 58,587 as 1,494 new cases recorded

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced that 1,494 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 8,839 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 58,587 the total number of confirmed infections in the country.

From the cases, 1,453 are Kenyans and 41 are foreigners; 870 are males and 624 females, while the youngest is a ten-month old infant and the oldest is 98 years of age.

The CS Kagwe-led ministry, in a statement to newsrooms, also said 586 patients recovered from the disease, 413 of them from the Home-Based Care Program while 173 were discharged from various hospitals, taking total recoveries to 38,381.

MoH however added that 12 patients succumbed to the disease bringing the fatality to 1,051.

“Currently, there are 1,313 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,005 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 57 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 25 of whom are on ventilatory support and 27 on supplemental oxygen,” read the statement.

“Another 95 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen of whom 77 are in the general wards, while 18 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).”

Distribution of the 1,494 cases by counties is as follows; Nairobi 414, Nakuru 188, Mombasa 173, Kiambu 150, Uasin Gishu 107, Turkana 52, Kilifi 50, Garissa 35, Taita Taveta 35, Kajiado 31, Baringo 31, West Pokot 31, Laikipia 28, Kisumu 28, Murang’a 14, Machakos 13, Nyandarua 12, Siaya 12, Meru 12, Elgeyo Marakwet 11, Embu 10, Kericho 10, Narok 9, Kitui 6, Makueni 6, Bomet 5, Marsabit 4, Kakamega 4, Lamu 3, Samburu 3, Kwale 2, Kisii 2, Tana River 2 and Nyamira 1.

The 414 cases in Nairobi are from Lang’ata (100), Kibra (42), Westlands (32), Dagoretti North (29), Embakasi Central (26), Starehe (22), Dagoretti South and Roysambu (21) cases each, Mathare (19), Kamukunji (18), Embakasi South (15), Embakasi North and Ruaraka (14) cases each, Embakasi West (12), Kasarani and Makadara (10) cases each, Embakasi East (9).

In Nakuru, the 188 cases are from Nakuru North (69), Nakuru East (58), Nakuru West (21), Naivasha (19), Rongai (7), Gilgil, and Molo (5) cases each, Kuresoi South (3) and Njoro (1).

In Mombasa, the 173 cases are from Mvita (54), Jomvu (53), Kisauni (19), Likoni (18), Changamwe (16) and Nyali (13). In Kiambu, the 150 cases are from Thika (49), Kiambu Town (23), Ruiru (16), Kikuyu (14), Limuru (13), Gatundu South (12), Juja (9), Githunguri and Kiambaa (5) cases each, Gatundu North (4).

In Uasin Gishu, all the 107 cases are from Ainabkoi. In Turkana, the 52 cases are from Turkana Central (37), Turkana South (9) and Turkana North (6). In Kilifi, the 50 cases are from Malindi (20), Kaloleni (12), Kilifi North (11), Magarini (5) and Kilifi South (2).

In Garissa, the 35 cases are from Fafi (12), Garissa Town (12) and Dadaab (11). In Taita Taveta, the 35 cases are from Mwatate (18), Voi (16) and Taveta (1).

In Kajiado, the 31 cases are from Kajiado East (21), Kajiado North (7) and Loitokitok (3). In Baringo, the 31 cases are from Koibatek (14), Baringo Central (12), Mogotio (3), Baringo North and Marigat (1) case each.

In West Pokot, all the 31 cases are from West Pokot. In Laikipia, the 28 cases are from Laikipia East (19) and Laikipia West (9). In Kisumu, the 28 cases are from Kisumu Central (21), Muhoroni (6) and Nyakach (1).

In Murang’a, the 14 cases are from Maragua (7), Kiharu (5), Gatanga and Kandara (1) case each. In Machakos, the 13 cases are from Athi River (6), Machakos (5), Kangundo and Kathiani (1) case each.

In Nyandarua, the 12 cases are from Kinangop, 01 Kalou and Oljororok (4) cases each. In Siaya, the 12 cases are from Rarieda (6), Gem (3), Alego Usonga (2) and Ugenya (1).

In Meru, the 12 cases are from Imenti North (9) and Imenti South (3). In Elgeyo Marakwet, the 11 cases are from Keiyo North (9) and Keiyo South (2). In Embu, all the 10 cases are from Manyatta, while the 10 cases in Kericho are from Ainamoi (6) and Kipkelion East (4).

In Narok, all the 9 cases are from Transmara West. The 6 cases in Kitui, are from Kitui West (5) and Mwingi Central (1), while the 6 cases in Makueni, are from Kibwezi East (3), Kibwezi West, Kilome and Makueni (1) case each.

In Bomet, the 5 cases are from Bomet Central (4) and Sotik (1). In Marsabit, all the 4 cases are from Saku, while in Kakamega, the 4 cases are from Butere and Lurambi with (2) cases each.

In Lamu, all the 3 cases are from Lamu West, while in Samburu, the 3 cases are from Samburu Central (2) and Samburu East (1).

The 2 cases in Kwale are from Matuga and Msambweni (1) case each, the 2 cases in Kisii, are from Kitutu Chache South and Nyaribari Masaba with (1) case each, the 2 cases in Tana River, are all from Galole. The case in Nyamira, is from Borabu.
