Kenyas COVID-19 infections at 341,977 after 44 new cases recorded

The Ministry of Health on Tuesday reported that 44 people contracted COVID-19 out of a sample size of 661 tested in the past 24 hours.

Of the cases, 23 are males while 21 are females; the youngest is a three-year-old and the oldest is 82 years.

Total confirmed positive cases are now 341,977 out of 3,946,234 cumulative tests conducted so far.

The infections were distributed across various counties as follows: Nairobi 17, Trans Nzoia 9, Siaya 7, Nakuru 6, Kisumu 3 while Nyeri has 2 cases.

At the same time, 42 patients recovered from the disease, pushing the total recoveries to 335,740.

No deaths were however recorded within the said period, hence cumulative fatalities stand at 5,684.

“There are 30 patients currently admitted in our health facilities, while 523 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 1 other patient is on supplemental oxygen, and is in the General ward.," noted Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha Wafula in a statement to newsrooms.

On the vaccination front, the ministry noted that 22,993,509 vaccines had been administered across the country as of December 6, 2022, with 18,416,378 being doses administered to the adult population (18 years and above).

In the last 24 hours, the ministry recorded that 8,271 vaccines had been administered while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the same period was 3,447.

“An additional 2,815,661 are doses administered to those between 12 to below 18 years while 1,761,470 are booster doses,” said the Health CS.

“Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 36.7%. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033 people.”
