Kenyan woman found dead in Australia as detectives open probe

A 34-year-old Kenyan woman was found dead in Osbourne Park, Australia, days after her family reported her missing.

According to Perth Now, an Australian publication, Jelagat Cheruiyot also known as Nancy was found dead when police went to conduct a welfare check.

“They (the family) were concerned because she had not been seen for several days and they were unable to make contact with her which was very unusual,” Detective Wright told Perth Now.

The police, however, did not give any information in regard to the type of injuries found on the body or how she might have got them.

In a statement, the detective affirmed that they are treating the case as a homicide.

Ms. Cheruiyot is said to have been living in Australia for a few years and worked at a local business in Perth’s south. It is not known if she was living alone.

Information by the police indicates that some of her family members might be living in Australia.

“We are still making contact with family members,” police said. “At this point in time, we’ve made contact with two relatives that are here in Perth.”

A post mortem is expected to reveal the cause of death.

Until now, no suspects have been found but the police are searching for two vehicles: a blue Hyundai Getz Hatchback with the registration number 1CMR900, and a Mitsubishi Coupe with the registration number 1BJP872.

The two cars are said to be linked to the same address where the body was found in Osborne Park.

Police are urging anyone with information that may assist in investigations to report to the nearest station.
