Kenyan media houses to donate Ksh.10M each in ad space, airtime to COVID-19 emergency fund

Kenyan media houses under the Media Owners Association will be donating advertising space and airtime worth Ksh.10million each to the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.

According to MOA Chairperson Wachira Waruru, the total value of the contribution from 15 MOA members will be Ksh. 150million.

“The advertisements will be carried across our newspaper, radio, TV and digital platforms,” he said.

Members of Media Owners Association are Capital Group Limited, Ebru Africa Limited, Family Media Limited, Kass Media Group Limited, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, Media 7 Group, MediaMax Network Limited,  Nation Media Group PLC, Radio 44, Radio Africa Group, Royal Media Services Limited, Standard Group PLC, Switch TV, Three Stones Media Limited and TV 47.

Mr. Waruru also stated that members remain committed to reviewing their contributions if and when the situation demands.

He further assured Kenyans of continued support and partnership from the media fraternity towards efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“The Kenyan media has been at the forefront of reporting about COVID-19 and driving public awareness campaigns aimed at curbing the spread of the pandemic.

“The campaigns have mainly consisted of content generated by individual media houses and public service announcements carried in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Communications Authority (CA),” the MOA Chairman said.

The COVID-19 emergency Fund on Tuesday said it has raised Ksh. 1.2billion so far:

•Cash: Ksh. 917,768,950
• Material resources (food and non-food items): Ksh. 370,300,000
• Total contribution: Ksh. 1,288,068,950

The Board affirmed that the donations will be utilised to support the government’s efforts in the supply of medical facilities and equipment and support for vulnerable communities.

“The Board would like to express its deepest gratitude for the support and goodwill that the fund continues to receive from Kenyans from all walks of life. We would like to encourage more Kenyans to donate to the fund as we all work together to overcome this challenge,” Chairperson Jane Karuku said.
