Kenya to receive 500,000 more doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine

Kenya is set to receive 500,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine by Thursday as it targets to boost its vaccination rate.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Thursday said by the end of next week, the government targets to have enough doses in the country to hit the 10 million mark of vaccinated citizens come December 2021.

“The vaccine supply situation in the country has now been greatly improved. By next week, we will have received and supplied all doses required for us to hit our target of 10 million people by end of December,” he stated.

"Later this evening, in fact, we shall be receiving an additional 500 000 JJ vaccines through the AVAT mechanism to boost our efforts," Kagwe added.

The CS further advised Kenyans to be more vigilant in observing the laid out COVID-19 protocols to aid conquer the pandemic even as the dusk-to-dawn curfew was vacated.

"I appeal to Kenyans not to relent, to ensure that you are vaccinated. I appeal to younger people to get vaccinated and to ensure that their parents are also vaccinated," he advised.

As of October 20, 2021, a total of 4,733,770 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 3,416,746 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 1,317,024.

The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033
