Kenya records 18 deaths as 902 people test positive for COVID-19

The Ministry of Health on Monday announced that 902 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 3,395 tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total confirmed infections to 131,116 with a positivity rate of 26.6 per cent. From the cases, 829 are Kenyans while 73 are foreigners; 484 are males and 418 are females, while the youngest is an 11-months-old-baby and the oldest is 96. Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to newsrooms, said 407 patients recovered from the coronavirus; 237 from Home Based and Isolation Care, while 170 were discharged from various health facilities, taking total recoveries to 92,161. CS Kagwe however also stated that 18 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, all of them being late death reports from facility record audits that occurred on diverse dates, thereby pushing the cumulative fatalities to 2,135. The 902 cases were recorded in various counties namely: Nairobi 707, Nakuru 40, Uasin Gishu 39, Machakos 29, Kiambu 21, Kajiado 21, Kltui 12, Kilifi 9, Mandera 5, Laikipia 3, Nyeri 3, Makueni 2, Kakamega 2, Kirinyaga 1, Nandi 1, Siaya 1, Baringo 1, Bomet 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Kwale 1, Taita Taveta 1 and Trans Nzoia 1. In Nairobi, the 707 cases are from Westlands (68), Lang’ata (66), Dagoretti North (60), Kasarani (47), Starehe (42), Kibra (41), Dagoretti South and Embakasi West (40) cases each, Ruaraka (39), Kamukunji, Makadara and Mathare (38) cases each, Embakasi East and Roysambu (34) cases each, Embakasi Central (31), Embakasi North (27), Embakasi South (24). In Nakuru, the 40 cases are from Naivasha (18), Nakuru East (12), Nakuru West (8), Subukia (2). In Uasin Gishu, the 39 cases are from Kapseret (14), Ainabkoi and Turbo (8) cases each, Kesses (7), Moiben and Soy (1) case each. In Machakos, the 29 cases are from Athi River (11), Kalama, Machakos and Yatta (6) cases each. In Kiambu, the 21 cases are from Kikuyu (8), Kiambu Town (7), Ruiru (3), Juja (2) and Kiambaa (1). In Kajiado, the 21 cases are from Kajiado Central (9), Kajiado North (7), Kajiado east (5). In Kitui, all the 12 cases are from Kitui Central. In Kilifi, the 9 cases are from Kilifi North and Malindi (4) cases each, Kilifi South (1). In Mandera, the 5 cases are all from Mandera East. In Laikipia, the 3 cases are all from Laikipia East while in Nyeri the 3 cases are from Nyeri Central (2) and Nyeri South (1). In Makueni, the 2 cases are from Makueni and Mbooni (1) case each, while in Kakamega the 2 cases are from Likuyani and Lugari (1) case each. The case in Kirinyaga is from Kirinyaga Central, the case in Nandi is from Chesunnei, the case in Siaya is from Bondo, the case in Baringo is from Koibatek, the case in Bomet is from Bomet East. The case in Elgeyo Marakwet is from Marakwet East, the case in Kwale is from Msambweni, the case in Taita Taveta is from Voi, and the case in Trans Nzoia is from Saboti.
