Kenya records 12 new COVID-19 deaths & 1,530 cases; positivity rate now at 19.1%

The Ministry of Health in a statement on Tuesday, announced that 1,468 Kenyans and 62 foreigners had tested positive for COVID-19 , pushing the total of confirmed cases in the country to 132,646.

The 1,530 new infections which represent a 19.1% positivity rate were tested from a sample size of 8,010 people in the last 24 hours and push the total of samples tested so far to 1,480,240.

The new infections comprise 842 males and 688 females; the youngest patient being a three-month-old baby and the oldest being 99.

In as far as vaccines are concerned, 1.12 million doses of the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine have been delivered to Kenya; 806,000 have been distributed countrywide and 130,575 people have been vaccinated.

Across the country, the cases are distributed as follows: Nairobi 686, Nakuru 164, Kiambu 151, Kitui 68, Nyeri 67, Uasin Gishu 65, Machakos 41, Kajiado 30, Mombasa 29, Kisumu 26, Nyandarua 24, Embu 24, Busia 23, Makueni 19, Murang’a 16, Nandi 15, Kilifi 15, Taita Taveta 10, Meru 9, Trans Nzoia 8, Laikipia 7, Kakamega 7, West Pokot 7, Kirinyaga 3, Baringo 2, Kisii 2, Turkana 2, Vihiga 2, Bungoma 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Garissa 1, Isiolo 1, Kericho 1, Nyamira 1, Siaya 1 and Tharaka Nithi 1.

In terms of Sub County distribution; In Nairobi the 686 cases are from Westlands (93), Lang’ata (82), Kibra (49), Embakasi West (41), Kasarani and Roysambu (39) cases each, Starehe (38), Kamukunji (37), Makadara (35), Embakasi Central (33), Ruaraka (32), Embakasi East and Mathare (30) cases each, Embakasi South (29), Dagoretti South (28), Dagoretti North (27) and Embakasi North (24).

In Nakuru the 164 cases are from Nakuru East (44), Nakuru North (28), Nakuru West (21), Molo (20), Gilgil (14), Subukia (11), Naivasha (9), Njoro (8), Kuresoi South (4), Kuresoi North (3), Rongai (2).

In Kiambu the 151 cases are from Ruiru (36), Thika (31), Kiambu Town (24), Kiambaa (15), Githunguri (12), Juja (8), Kikuyu (7), Kabete (5), Gatundu North, Lari and Limuru (4) cases each, Gatundu South (1).

In Kitui all the 68 cases are from Kitui Central. In Nyeri the 67 cases are from Nyeri Central (46), Mukurweini (7), Kieni East and Nyeri South (4) cases each, Kieni West and Mathira East (2) cases each, Mathira West and Tetu (1) case each.

In Uasin Gishu the 65 cases are from Ainabkoi (25), Kapseret (16), Turbo (11), Moiben and Soy (5) cases each, Kesses (3). In Machakos the 41 cases are from Yatta (11), Machakos Town (10), and Matungulu (5).

In the last 24 hours, the statement also notes, 129 patients have recovered from the disease; 74 from the Home Based Isolation and Care and 55 from various hospitals.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 92,290.

At the same time, the death toll from the disease has hit 2,147 after 12 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

According to the statement, all the deaths were late death reports from facility record audits that were done on diverse dates.
