Kenya on Friday received additional 835,380 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines as part of the country’s move to boost its vaccination drive.

According to the United States Embassy, the vaccines which arrived in the country via the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) were part of the COVAX program sponsored by the US government.

“The latest U.S donation of 835,380 safe and effective vaccine doses brings the total to more than 4.5 million COVID-19 doses delivered to Kenya demonstrating our strong partnership and commitment to defeating COVID-19 globally,” the US embassy stated.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health confirmed receiving 7.5 million syringes of Pfizer vaccines in preparation for the 4 million vaccines expected in this month that was donated by the Mastercard Foundation through the AVAT mechanism of the African Union.

MoH on the same day reported receiving 907, 200 doses of Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 dose, all in a bid to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta’s target of administering 10 million vaccines by the end of December 2021.

The Ministry still believes that the target is still on course and is imploring citizens to turn out for vaccination and advocating for mobilization of people by the county governments.

“We are urging the county governments to mobilize their people for this vaccination campaign. There are enough vaccines in the country and therefore we appeal to all eligible Kenyans to turn out at our approved sites and get vaccinated,” read the MoH statement.

A report from the Ministry of Health indicates that a total of 6,811,043 vaccines had been administered across the country as of November 25, 2021.

Of these, 4,207,502 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 2,603,541.
