Kabete Mini Polls Shaping up as IEBC Clears SAFINA Candidate

John Wamagata has been cleared to vie for the Kabete parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election on a Safina Party ticket.

Wamagata, a well known member of the civil society, served as the Treasurer of the Centre for Multi-Party Democracy (CMD).

He was at the centre of the protests against the shutting down of television stations by the Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) in February.

Wamagata was also at the centre of the ' M-Rats' campaign against Members of County Assemblies in 2014 when he declared that he would lead other protesters in unleashing 10,000 rodents in the assemblies during the campaign to portray the greediness of the MCAs.

MCAs had been criticised for their lavish spending of public money on foreign trips.

Wamagata will be facing off with former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu who was declared the Jubilee Alliance Party candidate after garnering 14,696 votes during the nominations.

Wamagata will also be facing off with Wilson Karanja. Karanja will be vying on an ODM ticket.

The mini-polls will take place on May 4th, 2015.

The Kabete parliamentary seat fell vacant after the murder of George Muchai in Nairobi under unclear circumstances.

The MP, his two body guards and his driver were reportedly attacked by four suspected assailants at Kenyatta Avenue-Uhuru Highway roundabout.

Police investigations have identified seven suspects who have since been charged in connection with the murder.
