Jubilee picks Mohamed Kolosh as party flag bearer for Wajir West poll

Deputy President William Ruto has expressed confidence that the Jubilee Party will win the forthcoming Wajir West fresh elections.

Dr Ruto said Jubilee is a party with national outlook, noting that it would do everything possible to win the seat, in the elections to be held on April 25, this year.

The Deputy President called for peaceful campaigns based on policies, ideas and issues, rather than name-calling.

Dr Ruto made the remarks at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi on Friday when he received Ahmed Kolosh, the former Wajir West MP, who has since ditched Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for Jubilee Party before presenting him with the party’s certificate ahead of the bye-election.

Present was the National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju and several MPs.

“As we welcome you to our party, we want to assure you that we will campaign for you to win,” said Dr Ruto.

The Supreme Court in January, ordered for fresh elections in Wajir West in the case that was filed against the election of Mr Kolosh as its Member of Parliament. The ruling resulted from a petition by Abdirahman Ibrahim Mohammed of Kanu.

The Deputy President said Jubilee would continue to focus its energies on unity and development across the country, urging other political parties to join the Government in bringing Kenyans together irrespective of tribal and political persuasions.

He asked contestants to engage in peaceful and democratic campaigns that are devoid of chaos and name-calling.

“We want to engage in peaceful campaigns based on issues, policies and ideas. Jubilee is committed to eradicating politics based on ethnicity and clans,” said Dr Ruto.

He said the Government has initiated development projects in Northern Kenya to transform the lives of the people and dissuade the ‘marginalisation’ tag that has existed for long in the region.

“As Jubilee administration, we have robust development programmes in collaboration with our development partners aimed at transforming the region,” said Dr Ruto.

Mr Kolosh who is optimistic that he win retain his seat, thanked the Jubilee Party for welcoming him.

“Kenyans have now moved on and are working together on matters of development. Reading the mood of Kenya and Wajir in particular, I have resolved to join Jubilee Party because majority of leaders and people there are supporters of the ruling party,” said Mr Kolosh.

He said they were ready to conduct peaceful and democratic campaigns ahead of the election date.

“I am extremely delighted to be associated with the Jubilees Party. We will conduct ourselves with decorum and engage in peaceful manner because that’s what democracy is all about. We are going to stick to the rule of the game,” said Mr Kolosh.
