JSC releases interview schedule for CJ, DCJ and Supreme Court Judge posts

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will conduct the interviews for the positions of the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and Judge of the Supreme Court from August 29^th to October 7^th, 2016.

The interviews will see a total of 37 candidates interviewed for the three positions.

The post of the Chief Justice fell vacant following the exit of Dr. Willy Mutunga, who opted for an early retirement while those of the Deputy Chief Justice and the Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya fell vacant following the retirement of their respective holders; Kalpana Rawal and Philip Tunoi.

Rawal and Tunoi were forced to proceed on retirement after the Court of Appeal ruled that the retirement age of judges was capped at 70 years by the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

The interviews, which will be conducted at the Supreme Court Library within the Supreme Court Building will see six candidates including Justices Alnashir R.M. Visram, Amraphael Msagha Mbogholi, David Kenani Maraga, Roselyn Naliaka Nambuye, Smokin Charles Wanjala and legal scholar Philip Nzamba Kitonga battle it out for the post of the Chief Justice.

The position of the Deputy Chief Justice will see 13 candidates, all ladies, square it out among them Lady Justices Abida Ali Aroni, Agnes Murgor, Fatuma Sichale, Hannah Okwengu , Lydia Awino Achode, Martha Karambu Koome, Pauline Nyamweya, Philemona Mwilu, Roselyn Nambuye and Wanjiru Karanja together with lawyers Joyce Miguda Majiwa, Pamela Mwikali Tutui and Surinder Kapila.

Justices Alnashir Visram, Agnes Murgor, Mbogholi Msagha, Erastus Githinji, Fatuma Sichale, Isaac Lenaola, Joseph Sergon, Martha Koome, Luka Kimaru, Pauline Nyamweya, Wanjiru Karanja, Philomena Mwilu, and Roselyn Nambuye will be among the 18 candidates who will be interviewed for the position of the Judge of the Supreme Court.

Others lined up for this position are lawyers David Mwaure Waihiga, Imaana Kibaya Laibuta, John Kipkoech Chebii, Joyce Miguda Majiwa and Pamela Mwikali Tutui.

JSC has invited members of the public to present any information on the candidates they would wish considered during the interviews to the commission.

Justice Alnashir Visram will be the first candidate to face the panel in the position of the Chief Justice on August, Monday 29^th at 9:00am while Lady Justice Wanjiru Karanja will be the last to face the panel on September, Friday 7^th, 2016 at 2:00pm.
