Joho: Migori Chaos was a calculated assassination attempt

Mombasa County Governor Hassan Joho now says that chaos that marred Monday’s Migori rally was no ordinary case of political fracas – instead claiming that it was an assassination attempt executed by well-trained security forces clad in civilian attire.

ODM political bigwigs including Governor Hassan Joho, Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyong’o his Siaya counterpart James Orengo had travelled to the South Western county to grace the launch of Suna East’s MP Junet Mohamed re-election bid.

Trouble ensued when hooligans, believed to be Migori Governor Okoth Obado supporters, stormed the function –effectively disrupting the whole event. Stones and water bottles were hurled at the ODM leaders, forcing them to scamper to safety.

In a circular to news rooms, Joho stated that a bodyguard was shot in the melee – a report that was confirmed by Rongo OCPD Jonathan Kisaka. The Governor further claimed that shots were fired at his car.

Joho, who has been sharply critical of the Jubilee administration and President Uhuru Kenyatta, claims that the violent happenings at Migori were politically motivated.

He reiterated allegations he made last week after the Kenya National Exam Council (KNEC) disowned his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results slip, arguing that the chaos in Migori was the latest in a series of attacks against him.

“We believe that the events of today are part of a growing pattern of the politically motivated attacks and intolerance that we have witnessed in recent days even though until today, those attacks have mostly been verbal,” read the statement.

Joho called for immediate and thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding the chaos.
