IPOA accuses Boinett of interference

Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is accusing Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett of frustrating investigations into police excesses by the oversight body.

According to IPOA chair Macharia Njeru, the IG ordered his officers not to allow any of its officers to conduct investigations touching on police officers without permission from him.

Njeru also lamented the rising hostilities between police and IPOA, accusing the National Police Service of being resistance to accountability and reforms, starting from Boinett and police internal affairs.

The IPOA boss was speaking as he condemned the assault, detention and charging of its officer who was investigating misconduct claims at Kayole Police Station on Monday.

The IPOA officer, who had visited Kayole OCPD Ali Nuno in his office to serve him with summons to appear before detectives, was only released after DPP Keriako Tobiko intervened.
