Interior CS Fred Matiangi denies claims that Cabinet is split

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has rubbished claims of a Cabinet split following accusations over the controversial La Mada meetings.

Speaking in Nyeri County at the funeral of CS Joe Mucheru’s grandmother on Friday, Dr. Matiang’i maintained that they ‘enjoy a working relationship.’

“You may have heard that we are not working together in the Cabinet but don’t listen to anyone who has time to waste,” he said.

Transport CS James Macharia echoed Dr. Matiang’i’s sentiments saying the meetings between Cabinet Secretaries and their deputies would continue.

According to him, they are meant to spur development and it is not abnormal for government officials to have meetings.

Leaders fom across the political divide recently urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to reconstitute his Cabinet following the fracas over an alleged assassination letter.

Earlier this month, three Cabinet Secretaries were summoned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters.

They were questioned over a letter that alleged a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.

It has since been revealed that the letter was fake and had been authored at a cyber cafe in Nairobi’s Lang’ata estate and shared on the Tanga tanga WhatsApp group.

State House Director of Digital Strategy Dennis Itumbi was later arraigned in court over links to the letter.

He was however released on Ksh. 100,000 cash bail even as the Prosecution sought to have him detained longer.

The identity of a second suspect allegedly linked to the case is yet to be released.

On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen further downplayed claims of a split in the ruling Jubilee party.

Other leaders at the funeral included PSs Karanja Kibicho (Interior) and Nicholas Muraguri (Lands); , Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu and Kieni MP Kanini Kega.
