Inmate serving life sentence at Embu prison commits suicide
An inmate serving a life sentence at the Embu GK Main Prison has committed suicide inside the facility.
The deceased, Silas Kirimi Ntimwamba, was slapped with life imprisonment by a Meru court over his involvement in a robbery with violence incident in Kangate Village.
He was previously jailed at Meru Prison since 2013 and was only transferred to the Embu GK Main Prison in 2016.
Sources at the prison told Citizen Digital that the prisoner was on some medication and often had a bad temper when wronged.
The sources further added that, before the inmate hang himself in the wee hours of the night, he had quarreled with another prisoner; the incident is suspected to have drove him to suicide.
The body of the deceased has since been moved to the Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
