Ikiara to replace embattled KEBS boss Charles Ongwae

Industrialization CS Adan Mohamed has named Dr. Moses Ikiara as the acting Managing Director of Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

In a letter certified urgent, Dr. Ikiara is to assume position with immediate effect for a period of three months.

The letter from CS Mohamed was addressed to the Chairman of National Standards Council Mugambi Imanyara

Prior to Thursday’s appointment, Dr. Ikiara was the Kenya Investment Authority MD.

He is also a former lecturer at the Moi University School of Environment Studies.

Dr. Kiara takes over from embattled Charles Ongwae, who was arrested and charged with attempted murder over the importation of sub-standard goods into the country.

Ongwae, charged alongside other KEBS officials, was however freed on Ksh.5million bond with a surety of a similar amount.

He was also ordered to present a cash bail of Ksh.3 million over charges of importation of fake import standardization mark (ISM) stickers.
