Huge traffic snarl up on Mombasa-Nairobi highway after tankers collide

There was heavy traffic around Tsavo area on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway after two tankers were involved in an accident blocking both sides of the road.

Pictures showed cars piled up on the road for over five kilometres on Thursday morning.

Mtito Andei Traffic Police boss Mike Mbugua confirmed the incident but said there were no casualties.

“The snarl up has been cleared and traffic has returned to normal,” Mr Mbugua said.

However, the Motorists Association of Kenya faulted the Kenya National Highways Authority saying:

“Single carriage two-way traffic curse continues to waste truck drivers & travellers in the now too many holdups, delays, wait, stoppage; traffic jam, tailback, gridlock, congestion The authority doesn’t have cranes to remove overturned heavy trucks.”

One traveller also took to social media to express his frustration after spending hours on the road following the accident.
