Houses demolished in Mlolongo following court ruling over controversial land

Property worth millions was destroyed as several houses were Sunday evening demolished at the Orbit area in Mlolongo, Machakos County.

According to sources who spoke to Citizen Digital on condition of anonymity, the land on which the houses were built is at the centre of a tussle between a cooperative sacco and an Indian-owned company.

The sources further intimated that the demolition was carried out following an order recently issued by court stating that the Indian-owned company was the legitimate owner of the land.

The company then moved in Sunday and demolished the houses despite reports that most of the home owners were not present at the time of the incident.

One of the home owners who later spoke to Citizen Digital acknowledged that the land had indeed been under contention and the subject of a court case for a long time until the recent ruling.

He, however, faulted the Indian-owned company for not giving them notice to vacate pending the demolition.
