Homa Bay nurse dies of COVID-19 complications a week after giving birth

Marian Awuor Adumbo, a nurse working at the Rachuonyo sub-county Hospital in Homa Bay, has died from COVID-19 complications at a Kisii health facility where she was admitted.

According to the National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK), Ms. Awuor was previously admitted at the Homa Bay County Hospital with flu-like symptoms in pregnancy where she tested positive for the coronavirus.

She reportedly later developed breathing complications and was transferred to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where a series of tests were done with the initial ones also coming out positive.

However, NNAK said, the final test results which came out on Thursday last week returned negative for COVID-19.

Ms. Awuor also gave birth to a baby boy while under high dependency care including oxygen augmentation.

The medical care worker’s condition is however said to have worsened on Sunday at 4pm when she passed on from COVID-19 complications, leaving behind the week-old baby.

The nurses association has since advised colleagues to observe a minute of silence with flamed candles on Monday at 12pm in honour of the deceased.
