Heavy rains to continue in these areas as Met. department warns of floods

The Kenya Meteorological department has advised members of public to brace themselves for heavy rains from Wednesday, October 23 to Monday, October 28 across the country.

According to the weatherman, you should be on the lookout for potential floods, with flood waters expected to appear in places where it has not rained heavily.

Areas expected to experience heavy rainfall include; Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, parts of Tana River, Lamu, Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Embu, Meru, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Kitui, Taita Taveta, Busia, Kisii and Nyamira.

Also set to be affected is Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru, Baringo, Narok, Migori, Nandi, West Pokot, Southern Turkana, Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Vihiga, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Busia, Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega, Nakuru, Isiolo, Garissa, Marsabit, Mandera and Wajir.

“Residents in all the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for potential floods. Flood waters may suddenly appear even in places where it has not rained heavily and can be deeper and faster than they look,” says the met. department in an advisory dated October 23.

Members of the public have been urged to avoid driving through, or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to avoid exposure to lightning strikes.

The rains are expected to continue for the entire seasons with occasional breaks
