GSU officer arrested after kidnap of Safaricom employee over Ksh.500K loan

A GSU officer from Baringo has been arrested after he was linked to the kidnap of a Safaricom employee in Malindi.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect was arrested on Friday night in Mombasa.

“Allegedly, the (female) victim had taken a Ksh. 500,000 loan from one of her abductors Ms. Grace WAIRIMU but failed to meet the agreed repayment deadline,” the DCI said.

The GSU officer is said to have colluded with two civilians.

“Seeking the assistance of the police officer and Mr. Omar Mwanguze, the three forced the victim into a private car before driving off from Malindi,” DCI said.

DCI detectives reportedly pursued the suspects who were in a Nissan March vehicle.

They were however cornered and forced to drive to the Central Police Station in Mombasa.

The victim was rescued and the three are in custody as further investigations continue.

In May this year, a former Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officer and a female suspect were arrested over the kidnap of a 4-year-old girl in Utawala area, Nairobi.

The girl, who is in Baby Class, was reported to have been abducted by two unknown persons while walking near the gate to her home.

She was later traced to Machakos County where she was found in the custody of the two suspects.

And in 2016, five police officers and a civilian were arrested over allegations of extortion and kidnapping.

It was alleged that the officers kidnapped a Chinese national who was a Standard Gauge Railway worker and demanded Ksh. 1million ransom for his release.
