Graft claims are mere political propaganda Senator

Nominated Senator Martha Wangari has refuted claims that she is using proceeds from a women’s group fundraiser she organized, in August 2016 at Gilgil, to fund her campaigns.

Speaking in Elementaita over the weekend, Wangari said that the Ksh. 2.4 million that was raised during the Harambee had been used to purchase tents and chairs for women groups in Gilgil Constituency.

Wangari claimed that the information was pure political propaganda, saying: “There are so many women groups in Gilgil and they all need different startups. Ignore political innuendos at this point in our country.”

Wangari’s claims on graft comes a day after Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho had been accused by Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan of embezzling County funds by falsely awarding fake companies county.

“There is no way that anything can be conducted within the country without the governor’s consent. It is clear that all businesses and transactions have to have the signature of the governor,” said Omar.

Joho had been accused of defrauding the County of close to Ksh.300 million, and paying a garbage collecting company to clean the Mombasa City – a job that was not done.

“There is no breakdown of how the money was paid and yet still Mombasa remains dirty,” claimed Omar.
