Govt raids illegal sausage production factory

Public Health officers on Friday raided a factory in Kinangop, Nyandarua County suspected of producing sausages that are lethal and unfit for human consumption.

According to the health officers, the factory produces sausages using rotten meat and unknown chemicals which pose danger to consumers.

Speaking at the factory, Sub County Public Health officer, Mary Maina, said the source of the meat and other ingredients used in the process were unknown and that the condition under which the sausages were manufactured was disturbing.

She acknowledged an increase in donkey skeletons which could be a possible source of meat for sausage production.

Magumu Assistant County Commissioner Mathew Wambugu said that they raided the facility after a tip-off from members of the public who noticed men transporting meat in paper bags.
