Govt committed to digital learning Matiangi

Information Communication Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr Fred Matiang’i Tuesday reiterated the government’s commitment to digital learning.

Speaking during this year’s Kenya Primary School Head Teachers Association annual delegate’s conference in Mombasa county, the CS said the government has already set aside Sh17 billion this financial year to ensure that all primary schools receive tablets for digital learning.

He further noted that the project is due for piloting, which will involve 150 schools, three schools in each county and nine special needs education (SNE) schools to be selected by the Kenya Institute of Special Education.

Dr Matiang’i also said that the government is committed in ensuring ICT lessons kick off as planned, adding that it will ensure electricity is installed in all public schools countrywide by the end of this year.

On his part, Communication Authority Director General Francis Wangusi stated that following advanced learning, students are exposed to cyber crime and therefore there is need for teachers and parents to embrace the awareness campaign.

Book publishers attending the conference led by Jerry Onyango noted that in response to digital technology, they are now shifting focus to producing digital learning material so as to cope with the new learning standards.
