Kirinyaga county offices closed over increasing COVID-19 cases

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has announced the closure of the county’s main offices after staff tested positive for COVID-19.

According to her, infections have been spreading rapidly among county officers despite implementation of prevention and control measures.

“Even more worrisome is some reported fatalities attributable to the COVID-19 disease. Despite efforts to keep the offices running and staff continuing to physically interact while strictly observing Ministry of Health COVID-19 guidelines, these have not borne the desired results; if anything, cases appear to be increasing by the day at the headquarters,” Governor Waiguru said in a statement.

She directed that the county offices be closed for two weeks with effect from Monday, November 16, 2020.

Departments will be required to conduct virtual meetings and use electronic devices to transmit information and data.

Further, Governor Waiguru instructed that all officers be available on phone especially during working hours and respond in a timely manner to communication via email.

“Health CECM is required to ensure mass testing of officers in the affected departments and communicate their results while also ensuring that families are decontaminated/sanitised,” she added.
