Governor Obado aide Oyamo handed Sharon to her killers, court told

The prosecution on Wednesday told the court that Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s personal assistant, Michael Oyamo played a key role in the planning and eventual execution of Sharon Otieno and her unborn child.

The court heard that Oyamo is the one who lured Ms Otieno from her parents home and handed her to the killers on September 3, 2018.

In an affidavit filed in court, Clement Mwangi, an investigation officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), says that after Oyamo handed Sharon and journalist Barack Oduor to the abductors, he proceeded to Uriri Police Station and made a false report through OB Number 19/4/9/2018 claiming that he (Oyamo) had been kidnapped.

The investigating officer submitted that Oyamo also went to the Kisii Level V Hospital on September 4, 2018 where he claimed he was treated at around 9pm – but this, according to the prosecution, is false.

“I have also established from Kisii Level V Hospital that the accused person was never a patient at the hospital on the alleged date,” reads the affidavit.

The investigating officer, while opposing the release of Oyamo on bail, further told the court that he has an eyewitness account of journalist Barrack Oduor whose statements implicate Oyamo, Governor Obado, Caspal Obiero and other suspects at large, in the murder of the Rongo University student.

“I have established that accused and Caspal Ajwang Obiero were the personal assistants to Obado tasked to manage the matter of Sharon’s pregnancy to avoid public scandal on the behalf Of Governor Obado,” claims the investigating officer.

The hearing of Oyamo’s bail application will be heard on October 8, 2018.
