Governor Mutua promises newlyweds Ksh.500k to 1M 'wedding gift' if elected president in 2022

Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader Alfred Mutua during the launch of his presidential manifesto on December 5, 2021.

2022 presidential aspirant Alfred Mutua has promised loans of between 500,000 and one million shillings for every newlywed couple as gifts from his government should he clinch the top seat.

Mutua said the loan will be repayable over a period of up to 20 years at a rate of 0.5 percent interest when he launched his presidential manifesto on Sunday.

“Newlyweds will receive an initial capital from my government of Ksh.500,000 to Ksh.1 Million in kind, payable over 20 years at an interest rate of 0.5 percent as a gift from the government to invest in their new home and entrench the family institution,” he stated.

The 'gift,' according to the Machakos governor, is intended to improve living conditions.

“What is the effect of all this? Dignity for all of us, improvement of the living standards and quality of homes countrywide and no more mud houses,” said Mutua.

At the same time, Mutua stated that his government will invest heavily in youth development by creating a conducive business environment.

According to Mutua, the government will create 5 million jobs in the first three years under his leadership.

Additionally, companies that hire more than 10 youth in entry-level positions will receive a 5% tax break, while youth-owned businesses will receive a 50% tax break, according to Mutua.

Mutua also pledged to revitalize the local creative industry, claiming that his government will eliminate duties and taxes on filming equipment, locations, and crew for both domestic and international productions.

He also intends to make it a requirement that 80% of the shows and music broadcast on television be produced in Kenya.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader also promised to make credit more accessible by eliminating the need for a surety in order to access the youth fund, which will be available to both individuals and partnerships for amounts up to Ksh.500,000.

“You will only need one registration form, two supporting documents, one-page business plan, and it will be processed and given to you within 24 hours. Online applications will also be accepted,” noted Mutua.

The presidential hopeful reiterated that he is confident he had what it takes to change this country, saying it was time to yield Kenya’s leadership to younger people.

“It is now time for a new generation to take over and transform this country from being theirs to ours. It is time to include the majority of this country in leadership, and that is the youth,” he said.
