Governor Mutua demands apology from Boniface Mwangi over 'bombing' claims

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua is demanding an apology from activist Boniface Mwangi for linking him to a raid that took place at his house in Lukenya, Machakos County.

Governor Mutua wants Mwangi to pull down all the social media posts including a video he made associating him with the Thursday morning attack.

"That you retract and pull down ALL of the said libelous and defamatory publications, of and concerning our client in the same prominence as in the offensive publications; That you publish an apology which is acceptable to us in flee manner approved by our client;" reads a demand letter through lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui.

Three attackers armed with pistols are reported to have ambushed the workers, robbed them of personal effects and assaulted the building still under construction with detonators causing three holes.

The Machakos Governor termed Mwangi's claims false and defamatory, adding that he had "injured his character as a leader of good standing of repute.”

He says the implications of Mwangi’s posts “touch on his leadership abilities and qualities germane of a person seeking to be elected in Kenya as the President in the forthcoming 2022 General elections,” and “his business involvement and trans-world networks in business, singly and in partnership with others.”

The Governor also wants the activist to pull down the video from the internet and any other web-based resource or archive where the said publication has been stored, posted, or is stored, and provide a certificate to Mutua of such pulling down of the publication.

Mutua has additionally demanded that Mwangi undertakes, in writing, that he will not publish any further defamatory material in a similar manner or related to the offending article.

“Our client will otherwise set in motion the legal process for redress in default of your meeting the terms of the demand as herein demanded and will further seek and pursue ancillary relief and damages at your risk to costs thereof, without any further or other reference to you in this regard,” reads the letter.
