GEMA Youth Chairman Kioi wa Murera urges youth to back BBI

GEMA Youth have vowed support for the Bridging Bridges Initiative (BBI) urging Kenyan youth to support the newly released report.

In a presser on Thursday, the group led by its Chairman Kioi Wa Murera urged youth across the country to read and carefully analyze the report in order to make a fact-based decision.

Further, the group announced plans to traverse the country in the coming weeks to drum up support for the report

Wa Murera underscored several key areas cited in the report, saying that for instance, the proposition to increase county revenue allocation to 35% from the current 15 % will foster countrywide prosperity.

During the presser, the group said the Kenyan Youth stand to benefit from the proposed 7-year tax holiday, a people-based government that will kill ethnicity and tribal politics as well as the proposition for HELB loanees to settle balances only when they land jobs.

“We are here because we support the propositions that benefit the youth, most starting entrepreneurs who have been bogged by taxes can now sigh in relief , not forgetting the biashara mashinani that will give business people tax-free and interest free loans to start their businesses,” Wa Murera said.

The much-anticipated report was handed over to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday at the Kisii State Lodge at an event graced by politicians and the electorate.

The report’s proponents are appealing to the public to read the report while re-imagining ways of making it better.

On Thursday, President Kenyatta drummed up support for the report while noting that not all propositions will be subjected to a referendum.

“Raila and I do not want to prescribe panadol and maybe someone has malaria, this is an opportunity for us to dialogue not engage in politics of insults,” Uhuru said.

Elsewhere, the report’s critics led by Ruto-allies have rubbished the report, saying it largely seeks to award a few people leadership positions.

The report will be launched officially to the public on Monday at the Bomas of Kenya.
