Gates closed & employees locked in as EACC raids KEMSAs Nairobi offices

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday raided the The Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) headquarters on Commercial Street, Nairobi.

Reports say the EACC officers sealed the gates and locked employees inside the premises.

Visitors from outside were also not allowed into the premises as the detectives who arrived in two vans went about their business.

The raid came just day after the EACC grilled top officials from KEMSA over their handling of procurement of drugs and other goods meant to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kembi Gitura-led KEMSA board was grilled for over seven hours on the contentious award of multi-billion tenders.

Preliminary investigations say KEMSA procured items worth Ksh 7.8 billion against the agreed budget of Ksh 750M.

Consequently, KEMSA was stuck with goods worth Ksh.6.2 that they are seeking to sell.

During the grilling, the board chairman told the EACC that the suspended agency’s CEO Jonah Manjari ignored the board’s advice and wrote directly to the Treasury, seeking additional funding.
