Four suspected con artists have been arrested after they were found defrauding a businessman in a fictitious Prisons Service tender.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that the quartet, posing as senior Kenya Prisons officers, conned a businessman Ksh.105,000 while promising to supply vegetables to Kitui GK Prisons.

The four are then said to have disappeared with the money, prompting a probe, leading to the arrest of Clement Wachira, Andrew Kimani, Ann Waweru, and Rehema Makandi.

An inspection conducted inside their car led to the discovery of 37 fake Kenya Prisons Service tender approval forms, two fake Kenya Prison Service job IDs, eight mobile phones and six ID cards belonging to different individuals.

The four will remain in custody pending arraignment.
