Form One placement to be done by December 4

Form One placement to be done by December 4

The form one selection for pupils who sat for the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam will be done in two weeks, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i.

Every pupil will know which school they will be joining come January, by December 12.

“We will do Form One selection and we hope to conclude form one placement by December 4. The firm instruction we have from the president is that by Jamhuri Day (December 12), every child must have been placed in a school,” said Dr. Matiangi.

He said the race against time was to help prepare for next year’s implementation of the Free Secondary Education Program.

The CS assured parents and pupils that placement will be done on merit and no student will be discriminated on the basis of the schools they did their exams.

“We will place all our children who have 400 marks and above in national schools regardless of whether they did their exams in private or public schools, we will not discriminate against any of our children,” added the CS.

Matiang’i said the government will support public schools who produce candidates in the top 100 category so as to increase their capacity.

He also asked Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia to come up with a way the government will reward the teachers of those public schools.
