Five lost elephants now spotted at Elgeyo Marakwet-Baringo border

The five lost elephants that caused a standstill in Laikipia on Friday have now been spotted at the border of Elgeyo Marakwet-Baringo counties.

A resident told Citizen Digital that they were sighted in Tugumoi and then again in Maji Mazuri, near the Baringo-Kericho border.

The two places are about an hour apart by car and 8 hours on foot.

The Kenya Wildlife Service has since issued a statement urging area residents to take caution as the animals have wandered off their migration route.

“A herd of five male elephants on migration from Laikipia to Mau have lost their route and are wandering around Timboroa forest dam. You are advised to exercise caution if in this area. Our teams are currently on the ground,” the statement issued on Friday reads.

Traffic had been brought to a standstill in Laikipia on Friday as the herd of elephants slowly crossed the road near Timboroa Forest.

Hundreds of curious residents gathered at the spot to catch a glimpse of the rare spectacle.
