First Lady Beyond Zero campaign targets women with fistula

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta will on Wednesday officially kick off the Beyond Zero Campaign that will cater to women and girls who require treatment for obstetric fistula.

The program that will be launched at Narok stadium will also involve registration and assessment of children with intellectual impairment.

Enrollment of pregnant women into the Linda Mama NHIF programme and eye care for older persons is also part of the Beyond Zero strategic framework 2018-2022.

Screening of cancers as well as provision of routine services such as immunization, HIV testing and counselling will also be conducted.

The campaign will begin by launching the Integrated Medical Safaris-an initiative aimed at achieving Universal Healthcare Coverage.

The initiative is to support President Kenyatta’s Big 4 Agenda on universal healthcare which intends to increase the number of people with health coverage from 16.53 million to 25.74 million.

In light of this, the government will expand the Linda Mama programme to include provision of free maternity care to mission and private hospitals.

It will moreover enlist 100,000 community volunteers to help in healthcare service provision at the grassroots, hence creating employment.
