Fire razes section of Tenwek Mission Hospital

Several patients admitted at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet County were forced to flee their wards after fire razed a section of the facility including the hospital’s restaurant and stores.

The fire is said to have started from the kitchen and spread to the food stores and restaurant, which are just a few meters from the Intensive Care Unit and the general wards.

Confirming the incident, Bomet Police boss Samson Rukunga said forensic experts have secured the scene to establish the cause of the inferno, adding that no casualties were reported.

The hospital’s CEO Geoffrey Langat also indicated that the cause of the fire is yet to be established.

The fire lasted for more than 2 hrs before fire engines from Narok and Kericho arrived with reports indicating that all the Bomet county fire engines were grounded.

Bomet deputy governor Dr.Hillary Barchok however said that new fire engines have already been purchased and will be launched soon.
