Fire razes down section of Gikomba market again

A section of Gikomba market was razed after fire broke out on Wednesday morning.

Witnesses said the incident began at around 4am but the cause is yet to be established.

The fire began at an area known as Line 42 and razed down clothing and shoes stores whose value is estimated to be in hundreds of thousands.

Emergency fire  teams were still trying to contain the raging fire as at 6am Wednesday morning.

No injuries have been reported so far.

This comes just two months after traders lost property of unknown value in a similar incident.

Last year, another fire incident at the popular market claimed 15 lives and property worth millions of shillings went up in flames.

At the time, a multi-agency team charged with getting to the root cause of the fire was formed by Governor Sonko although its findings are yet to be made public.

The latest incident has attracted the ire of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who claims that the slew of fire incidents over the years points to a group of ‘greedy’ Kenyans attempting to grab the property.
