Ex-governor Kivutha Kibwana announces return to lecture halls as he lands job at Daystar University

Former Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana has announced a return to university lecture rooms as he takes up a Professor role at the Daystar University Law School.

Taking to social media on Friday, the political firebrand expressed his elation to share his expertise in Law and upskill students who will be undertaking their Master's programme from January 2025.

"I thank God for the opportunity to serve at the Daystar University Law School as Professor. Another New Beginning. Where the youth are, I pray I always be there," he wrote.

Before his entry into politics, the ex-governor served a 25-year stint at the University of Nairobi (UoN) from 1977 to 2002 where he was an Associate Professor, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, a senior lecturer and chairman of the Department of Private Law.

He obtained a bachelor's degree in law from UoN in 1976. He also holds two Master of Laws degrees from the University of London and Harvard University.

He got his doctorate degree from George Washington University in 1988.

Prof. Kibwana announced his retirement from elective politics in November 2022, hanging his boots from public service after a 30-year tenure.

Before being the Makueni MP in 2002, the lawyer served as the spokesperson of the National Convention Executive Council (NCEC) from 1997 to 2002.

Prof. Kibwana remained at the MP seat until 2007 and was appointed by the late President Mwai Kibaki as Advisor for Constitutional, Parliamentary, and Youth Affairs in the President's Office in 2008 where he served until September 2012.

He was later elected as Makueni Governor from 2013-2022.
