Eliud Kipchoge threatens to sue radio station over brand, trademark violations
The world’s greatest marathoner and the only human to run a full marathon course in under two hours has threatened to sue a local radio station for violation of his brand, privacy, copyright and trademark rights.
Mr. Kipchoge, through his lawyer Donald Kipkorir, gave the station 2 hours to “expunge his name, images and reference” from all their social media accounts.
Kipchoge accused NRG radio of changing the name of the station and their social media pages and blogs to “Kipchoge.radio.”
“That without his permission, authority or licence, or any colour of right, you fraudulently informed your listeners and followers that by following you on your Instagram page, you will gift our client a car. Our client never asked for and doesn’t require any gifting of your car or any other car,” reads the demand letter.
He continued; “The use of our client’s name, image and reputation was in total and blatant violations of his brand rights, privacy, copyright and trademark rights. Those rights are in personam and can only be transferred with our client’s permission.”
The youth station had promised to gift a BMW i8 to Mr. Kipchoge if they hit 1 million Followers on Instagram and even changed their name to KipchogeRadio.
