DSTV subscription rates to increase in September

DSTV customers will from September 1, 2022 have to cough up more cash to access the subscription TV service.

This follows a Tuesday announcement by DSTV's mother company, Multichoice, of a price hike that will affect its five available subscription packages namely: Premium, Compact, Compact Plus, Family and Access.

Subscribers of the Access package will in a month's time pay Ksh.1100 to watch their favourite channels, a Ksh.50 hike from the Ksh.1050 they paid in 2021.

Customers seeking to sign up for the Family bouquet will pay Ksh.1600 compared to Ksh.1500 in 2021 while the compact subscription rate has increased by Ksh.200 to Ksh.3000.

Compact Plus and Premium packages subscribers will have to pay Ksh.5,500 and Ksh.8,900 respectively for the services according to the price review. The aforementioned bouquets cost Ksh.5,100 and Ksh.8,900 correspondingly last year.

In February 2022, DSTV revised the number of devices customers can use to log in to the platform to just one device at a time.

Multichoice said the move was aimed at curbing incidences of fraud spurred by sharing or selling customers’ subscription credentials. It however stated that the new restriction would however not affect the current four devices it allows to be registered under a single subscription.

“We will not limit the number of people using a login, however, we are limiting (to one) the number of people who can stream at the same time,” Multichoice said then.

The revision took effect on March 22.
