Drama as Miguna and Oguna face off on Citizen TV

A face-off was on Wednesday night witnessed on Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange Live Show as embattled lawyer Miguna Miguna and government spokesman (Rtd) Col. Cyrus Oguna engaged in a heated exchange over the former’s traveling woes.

Miguna left Canada for Kenya on Sunday and was set to arrive in the country on Tuesday night but, on arrival in Germany, he was blocked from traveling further after a red alert was issued against him.

Col. Oguna, speaking to the show host Jeff Koinange on call, admitted that the Kenyan government indeed issued the red alert over what he termed as the Kenyan-Canadian lawyer’s “unruly behavior.”

“Miguna was unruly and that went against international regulations put there by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) annex 17 which prohibits any unruly passengers to travel,” he stated.

The government spokesman also reiterated his earlier statement that Miguna should visit a Kenyan embassy in any country abroad and apply for a new passport since the one seized from him during his arrest and subsequent deportation has since expired.

The self declared National Resistance Movement Kenya (NRM-K) General however rubbished the request saying he fears for his life, further pointing reference to journalist Jamal Khashoggi – a Saudi government critic – who was killed when he visited a Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Miguna, appearing on the show via FaceTime from Berlin in Germany, poked holes into Col. Oguna’s request for him to also apply for a Visa abroad before entering Kenya and go through the normal period for issuance saying Visa is for foreigners yet he is a Kenyan citizen by virtue of birth.

According to Col. Oguna, however, “over 3,000 Kenyans have applied for passports abroad and have been issued with them, why is Miguna not willing to do that?”

Miguna, in response, said: “Because you (government) took Miguna’s passport illegally from his house in Nairobi. My passport was not lost, and my passport did not expire in 2018 when you took it…you took the passport illegally from me and then went and destroyed it.”

He further castigated Col. Oguna and, by extension, the Kenyan government telling them to obey the recent court order directing them to facilitate his entry into the country.

“A court order must be obeyed by everyone if we’re going to live by the rule of law. No one is above the law; the President is not above the law; Oguna is not above the law; Miguna is not above the law. So when the court says Miguna is a Kenyan citizen that never lost his citizenship, you must accept what the court has said,” added Miguna.
