Detectives arrest Joel Machoka over fake academic, birth certificates

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested Joel Machoka in connection with forgery and making of documents without authority.

Sleuths pounced on Machoka on Tuesday evening at his stall number 22 at Mfangano Trade Centre in Nairobi where they recovered 13 different ink stamps, stamp seals and two computers.

Also recovered were several suspected forged documents including cheque books,  birth certificates, Yellow Fever certificate and academic certificates.

The slink operation by DCI Kamukunji detectives is part of a series of operations being undertaken by the DCI to curb forgery and con jobs.

In 2019 a Nairobi woman arraigned in a Nairobi court for allegedly printing and selling fake birth and death certificates at her house in Kawangware area.

The suspect, Jackline Kwamboka Abuga, was charged with the offence of forgery.

She was arrested following a trap laid by DCI detectives attached to the Immigration department.

“The suspect has been printing the birth & death certificates at her house in Kawangare & selling them to unsuspecting Kenyans. She was arrested a few days ago after detectives laid a trap for her,” said the DCI in a tweet.

A computer, printer, seal for civil registrations and other assorted documents were recovered from her house in Kawangware area.

According to the DCI, investigations are at an advanced stage to have all those involved in the fake certificates syndicate nabbed.
