Mutahi Kagwe says CS Fred Matiangi has potential to succeed Uhuru

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Friday asked the Kisii Nation to support their son, Fred Matiangi for the country’s top job.

CS Kagwe was among other leaders who toured Kisii County on Friday to assess the county’s preparedness for COVID-19.

The two Cabinet Secretaries will be on a four-day-tour of Homabay, Kisii, Bomet and Kisumu counties to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

CS Kagwe noted that Matiang’i has what it takes to ascend to State House should his people protect him from “external political forces”, according to the Daily Nation.

Speaking at the Kisii County Assembly grounds, CS Kagwe noted that the onus was on the Gusii nation to support their son, saying the rest of the country would follow suit.

“You, Abagusii, know that in politics, people fight and undercut one another. But this is not the time for political backstabbing. If you behave normally, the world will treat you normally,” CS Kagwe was quoted by the Daily Nation.

Kagwe’s sentiments were echoed by Kisii Governor James Ongwae who said the Gusii nation would be represented by the Interior CS when the time comes.

Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri on the other hand asked CS Matiang’i to declare his interest in the country’s top job as he had already proved himself.

“We have our son here who has left a mark in all the ministries he has served. We are urging our people to rally behind him for the highest seat in the country,” Ongeri said.
