COVID-19 recognition: Sonko Rescue Team, Nairobi, Makueni, Mombasa Counties awarded
Several volunteer organizations were on Friday awarded for their outstanding role in supplementing the government’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Among the organizations that were recognised at the event organized by Volunteer Involving Organizations Society in partnership with the UN habitat was the Sonko Rescue Team which was awarded for its humanitarian support role and efforts in mitigating the spread of the virus.
Others included Mng’aroo Mtaani, Mathare Youth Foundation, Nubian Youth Council, GDD Mombasa Network, Nivalishe Pad Initiative , Love for the Child Asociation, Slum Child Foundation and Do it With Boldness Foundation.
Speaking at the event, Heath Ministry Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi hailed efforts by the volunteer organizations, noting that some had greatly helped the needy communities.
“We appreciate the efforts brought on board by these organizations and in the future we may look into ways through which we can together,” Mwangangi said.
Also recognised at the event was the Nairobi City County government, Makueni County, Mombasa and Machakos which were awarded for their quick response in putting in place COVID-19 containment measures.
“Among the governor’s we settled on were Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Makueni’s Kivutha Kibwana and Mombasa Hassan Joho,” said Fred Sadia the society National coordinator.
Governor Mike Sonko’s spokesman Ben Mullwa received the award on behalf of the governor and the county government.
The volunteers response recognition Awards are held every year to recognize individuals societies and well-wishers who help societies in one way or the other.
This year volunteers involving organizations society picked on a few County governments and society who have been instrumental in during the COVID-19 pandemic.
