COVID-19: Kenya records 1,463 new cases, 498 recoveries, 26 deaths

The Ministry of Health on Thursday announced that 1,463 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 8,976 tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total confirmed infections to 126,170 with a positivity rate of 16.3 per cent.

From the cases, 1,428 are Kenyans while 35 are foreigners; 802 are males and 661 are females, while the youngest is a three-month-old infant and the oldest is 103.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to newsrooms, also revealed that 498 patients recovered from the coronavirus; 372 from the Home-Based and Isolation Care while 126 were discharged from various health facilities, taking the total recoveries to 91,268.

CS Kagwe however announced that 26 deaths were reported; out of which only 3 occurred in the last 24 hours while 24 are late death reports from facility record audits that occurred on diverse dates, thereby pushing the cumulative fatalities to 2,092.

TThe 1,463 cases were recorded in various counties namely; Nairobi 766, Nakuru 126, Meru 83, Uasin Gishu 74, Kiambu 49, Kitui 46, Machakos 44, Kericho 30, Kisumu 28, Mombasa 27, Kajiado 22, Migori 20, Bungoma 20, Busia 19, Narok 17, Nyamira 16, Kilifi 15, Laikipia 11, Bomet 9, Garissa 7, Siaya 7, Nandi 5, Nyeri 5, Kisii 3, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Kirinyaga 2, Makueni 2, Trans Nzoia 2, Nyandarua 1, Tharaka Nithi 1, Vihiga 1, Kwale 1, Baringo 1 and Wajir 1.

The 766 cases in Nairobi are from Lang’ata (86), Westlands (63), Embakasi West (56), Kibra (54), Embakasi Central (49), Embakasi North (48), Dagoretti North (47), Kasarani (45), Ruaraka (43), Kamukunji and Starehe (39) cases each, Embakasi East (38), Embakasi South (35), Makadara (34), Roysambu (31), Mathare (30), Dagoretti South (29).

In Nakuru, the 126 cases are from Nakuru East (35), Naivasha (31), Gilgil (23), Nakuru West (21), Molo (10), Nakuru North (6). In Meru, the 83 cases are from Imenti North (78), Imenti South (2), Imenti Central, Tigania East and Tigania West (1) case each.

In Uasin Gishu, the 74 cases are from Ainabkoi (49), Turbo (18), Kesses (4), Kapseret, Moiben and Soy (1) case each. In Kiambu, the 49 cases are from Kiambaa and Ruiru (9) cases each, Thika (7), Kikuyu and Limuru (6) cases each, Kiambu Town (5), Juja (3), Kabete and Lari (2) cases each.

In Kitui, the 46 cases are from Kitui Central (29) and Mwingi Central (17). In Machakos the 44 cases are from Athi River (16), Kalama (14), Machakos Town (10), Kathiani, Masinga, Matungulu and Mwala (1) case each.

In Kericho, the 30 cases are from Ainamoi (27) and Bureti (3). In Kisumu, all the 28 cases are from Kisumu Central. In Mombasa, the 27 cases are from Mvita (11), Nyali (6), Likoni (4), Changamwe, Jomvu and Kisauni (2) cases each.

In Kajiado, the 22 cases are from Kajiado east (11), Kajiado North (8), Kajiado Central (3). In Migori, the 20 cases are from Suna East (19) and Rongo (1).

In Bungoma, the 20 cases are from Kanduyi (17) and Webuye West (3). In Busia the 19 cases are from Matayos and Teso North (6) cases each, Teso South (4), Butula (2) and Samia (1).

In Narok, all the 17 cases are from Narok North. In Nyamira, the 16 cases are all from Nyamira Town. In Kilifi, the 15 cases are from Kilifi North (5), Magarini (4), Malindi (3), Kaloleni (2), Kilifi South (1).

In Laikipia, all the 11 cases are from Laikipia East. In Bomet, the 9 cases are from Bomet Central (5) and Bomet East (4). In Garissa, all the 7 cases are from Garissa Town.

In Siaya, the 7 cases are from Alego Usonga and Rarieda (3) cases each, Gem (1).  In Nandi, the 5 cases are from Emgwen (3), Chesumei and Tinderet (1) case each. In Nyeri the 5 cases are all from Nyeri Central.

In Kisii, the 3 cases are from Kitutu Chache South (2) and Bonchari (1). In Elgeyo Marakwet, the 2 cases are from Keiyo North. In Kirinyaga, the 2 cases are from Kirinyaga Central and Mwea West (1) case each. In Makueni, the 2 cases are from Kibwezi East, while the 2 cases in Trans Nzoia are from Kiminini.

The case in Nyandarua is from Ndaragwa, the case in Tharaka Nithi is from Muthambi, the case in Vihiga is from Luanda, the case in Kwale is from Lunga Lunga, the case in Baringo is from Baringo North and the case in Wajir is from Wajir East.
