COVID-19 in Machakos: 68 out of 97 new cases recorded from one factory

Out of the 97 new COVID-19 cases that were recorded in Machakos County on Wednesday, 68 of them were confirmed from a single factory in Mavoko Sub-county.

This was revealed on Wednesday by Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua who pointed out that the 68 cases were confirmed after a mass testing exercise at the factory.

Mutua further highlighted that 25 are from Athi River area and four cases are from patients at Machakos Level 5 hospital.

“Currently 90% of all Machakos cases are from Mavoko area – Athi River & Mlolongo which border Nairobi. Patients of the new cases are all asymptomatic,” said the Governor, adding that “we will continue educating Wananchi & enforcing set guidelines.”

The number of COVID-19 cases in Kenya rose to 11,252 after 461 new infections were recorded on Wednesday after testing of 4,261 samples over the last 24 hours.

The cases are distributed as follows: Nairobi (248) followed by Machakos (97), Kiambu (20), Kajiado (15), Migori (14), Busia (12), Nakuru (11), Laikipia (7),  Nyeri (7), Kilifi (6), Lamu (4), Uasin Gishu (4), Kakamega (3), Kisii (3) Kisumu (2), Makueni (2), Mombasa (1), Bomet  (1) and Taita Taveta (1).

At the same time, seven more patients have succumbed to the coronavirus disease, pushing the number of fatalities recorded in the country to 209.

Fifty-one more people have also recovered from the virus bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,068.
